According to the Center for Disease Control, 50% of American adults are on a diet. Despite that astounding figure the average adult male weighted 27 pounds more in 2002 than in 1960 the average adult woman was 25 pounds heavier.
23% of Americans are obese and 50% are considered overweight. We live in a society of convenience, fast food and good deals. Unfortunately, our society has given way to an alarmingly unfit population. Very little nutritional education exists that conforms to America’s drive for convenience, practicality and ease of use. This is why Fitnovo.com was developed.
Fitnovo.com owner, Dustin Stewart, was facing a situation similar to most American adults – losing a battle between living a busy life and living healthy. |

In high school and college I was always very active. I was captain of the cross country team, had run a marathon and played a pick-up game of basketball or football at least once a week.
However, after college that all changed very quickly. I was lucky enough to land a good job and threw myself into it. My fiancé was living in a different state and I worked for 14 or 16 hours a day. Working 80 hours a week isn’t exactly a recipe for healthy living. I ate pizza or fast food for nearly every meal and I would drink 8 – 10 sodas per day.
One day in April of 2005 I looked in the mirror and couldn’t believe what had happened. I had ballooned to a hefty 210 pounds, up nearly 60 pounds in a little over two years. I had no idea that one Mountain Dew contained nearly 10% of my daily recommended calories or that three slices of pizza wasn’t one serving.
I immediately got out the digital camera and snapped a photo of myself with my shirt off. I was so embarrassed that I have never shown the picture to anyone. I immediately made myself a promise that I would get “in shape” and never be unhealthy again. That night, I stayed up nearly all night researching nutrition, exercise and weight loss on the internet. Surprisingly, I found thousands of sites that promised quick results or miracle diets that would allow me to eat anything I wanted. What I didn’t find was one site that contained honest answers and all of the information I needed to be healthy.
Over several weeks of studying, I had pieced together a plan to lose weight. I started eating a meal plan that I pieced together and alternating days between running and using an old Bowflex that we had recently been given. In less than 3 months, I had lost 50 pounds and had more energy than at any point in my life. Not only was I fit and healthy, I was enjoying food more than when I was consuming a large pizza or fast food every day.
After I had a chance to get my head around what was required to live a healthy life, I started thinking about the millions of other people that were in the same spot I was in on that fateful day in April.
I honestly believe that many more Americans would eat better if they had any idea of what they were putting into their bodies. Sure, everyone knows that a Big Mac is not the healthiest choice, but I often wonder how many people know exactly how unhealthy it is or how easy it is to live a healthy life.
I was also bothered because I still couldn’t find one online resource that contained all of the information that I wanted. This was the beginning of Fitnovo.com.
Novo is Latin and loosely translated it means revolution or to start anew. Exactly what I was looking for.
I began to read any and every piece of nutrition or exercise information that I could get my hands on. I compiled formulas, snippets of workout plans, diet philosophies and found a top-notch graphic designer to help make it all a reality.
I am now back to running marathons and exercising nearly every day, but more importantly my new passion is helping others find health and live a happier, fitter life. |
